Biofilms form when bacteria adhere to surfaces in wet environments. The first bacterial and molds adhere to a surface initially by weak, reversible bonds. Removing these bacteria and molds before they anchor themselves as biofilms is critical. Once biofilms form, the biofilm become a source of contamination in your facility.
Spray washing surfaces like belts and knives using less than 3 ppm dissolved ozone is an excellent clean in place technique to prevent biofilm conditioning and destroy existing biofilms. Cleaning rough surfaces and pipes generally requires higher dissolved ozone concentrations. Consistently getting ozone levels above 3 ppm requires special equipment. The Purotecs venturi eductor and static mixer in combination with our HiCon has a range of 0.1 ppm to 8 ppm dissolved ozone even in hard water.
